This mushroom was foraged and is 12 inches across. It has been finished in goldleaf and is mounted to a marble base. The species is a polypore which are a group of fungi that form large fruiting bodies with pores or tubes on the underside. However, this particular fungi is very old and is as hard as the wood it came from. Typically polypores are often restricted to either deciduous (angiosperm) or conifer ( gymnosperm) host trees.
