Green Haus Studio

The Green Haus Studio was built with support from the Indy Arts Council and Christel DeHaan. In 2024, I was selected for a DeHaan Artist of Distinction Award. I used my award to build the Green Haus Studio and develop community programming. In addition, I am currently designing a talking Culture Dye Garden. This is where we will learn about the heritage of each flower species, where it came from, how it served the people of the ancient world and how we are able to use those same historical materials today to create our own dyes for fabrics paintings and sculptures.

Sustainable Practice & Methods

In my practice botanical painting means painting with flowers, fruits, mushrooms, roots and seeds.

A sustainable practice, community education, and continued stewardship of the natural world are major themes in my work. I share my research by hosting a variety of workshops that highlight ethical foraging and greening our lives. My workshops show how to forage for botanical materials and process them into watercolor palettes. My classes illuminate that art and nature are inseparable, intertwined expressions of beauty. I develop workshops and create community-based projects that bring us closer to the natural world. This opens the door to understanding the delicacy of our world and why it is critical to usher in continued stewardship of the environment. Exploring the history of color is a journey that begins with ancient civilizations harnessing natural resources like plants, minerals, and insects to color textiles. My work is influenced from the Paleozoic period of earth pigments to the use of color used by the ancient Egyptians and the Medieval periods where dye practices become more refined. My work is a beacon of hope, a sustainable choice to embrace the use of dynamic practices and sustainable and intelligent materials.
