Gatekeepers are those who are actively developing solutions to aid in climate change. These are industry game changers. When we as consumers look to purchase but want to have healthier alternatives, this list is a list I highly recommend. These are industry leaders reinventing the material palette for humankind. From plant-based alternatives to food, clothing, leather these guys are who I find to be our 21st century tech giants. Having an idea is great but bringing it to market is a whole other ballgame. All of us are having to adapt to what that means. I don't believe we should be the one to compromise our health and well-being. This list highlights those I have researched for my own work, and it has now turned into a resource for you. There are Gatekeepers all over the world, but we need more of us to continue advocacy on behalf of the earth and the lives who inhabit it. The list also includes artists, musicians, performance artists, visual artists and many others who are working towards net zero now. Ayatana’s Biophilium, previously known as the Artists' Research Program, is a Canadian residency dedicated to encouraging artists in their engagement with and appreciation of wildlife. Each residency focuses on a specialized topic related to wildlife or death. For years I've focused on gardening with native plants to support our region's pollinators. Every spring and fall I add new host plants for butterfly caterpillars as well as flowers to provide nectar for adult butterflies. Through my art and gardening I hope to educate and inspire suburban home owners to let their lawns go a little wild.
